CFCNCA Recognized by OPM
Lieutenant Commander Michael Edwards and Mr. Edward Gingold received the CFC Hero Award from OPM for their efforts as campaign workers for the 2011 campaign
Alexandria, VA (July 13, 2012) — Global Impact, whose mission is to assure help for the world’s most vulnerable people, announced today that Lieutenant Commander Michael Edwards and Mr. Edward Gingold received the CFC Hero Award from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for their efforts as campaign workers for the 2011 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA). Lieutenant Commander Edwards serves with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Gingold works for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Each year, the U.S. OPM recognizes campaigns and volunteers who have made extraordinary contributions to the CFC through their dedication and creativity. CFC Innovator Awards are presented to campaigns implementing creative strategies leading to increased participation and/or contributions. CFC Hero Awards are presented to the campaign’s unsung heroes who make significant differences and demonstrate leadership qualities in their campaigns.
This year’s winners have made extraordinary contributions to the CFCNCA through their dedication and creativity. The tireless effort by Lieutenant Commander Edwards helped the Coast Guard deliver an exceptionally well-organized and successful campaign, which raised $741,000, 148 percent above their goal. Mr. Gingold’s 33 years of service as a committed and involved campaign worker have motivated thousands of donors to give to help others through the CFCNCA. This year, the FERC raised $460,000, 130 percent above its goal with a 61 percent participation rate. “The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by these two gentlemen is contagious and Global Impact is proud to work beside them,” stated Renée S. Acosta, President of Global Impact, which administers the CFCNCA campaign.
Local Federal Coordinating Committee Chair Dr. Brandon Haller commented, “Just as Federal employees work for the American public in communities throughout our country, many also give back to these same communities as campaign workers through the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area. Unsung heroes such as Lieutenant Commander Michael Edwards and Edward Gingold are the real success stories of our campaign and deserve to be recognized with this prestigious Hero Award.”
Dr. Haller will present both Edwards and Gingold with a plaque issued by OPM in September.

The Combined Federal Campaign is the only authorized charitable-giving drive for employees in the Federal workplace. Established by Executive Order in 1961, it continues to be the largest and most successful workplace fundraising model in the world. The Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area is the local campaign for Federal employees in the Washington Metropolitan Area.
