Federal Community: Show Some Love to the Causes You Care about this Holiday Season with a Donation through the CFCNCA

Campaign surpasses $20 million in pledges with deadline set for Jan. 11, 2019

WASHINGTON, Dec. 13, 2018 – The Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA)—the annual workplace giving opportunity for the federal community in the Washington Metropolitan Area and surrounding region—has surpassed the $20 million pledge mark and is encouraging donors to make monetary and volunteer pledges through the CFCNCA as part of their year-end giving plans.

“This year’s campaign is going strong. On Giving Tuesday alone, nearly $2.2 million in pledges were made through the CFCNCA, 22 percent more than in 2017,” said Vince Micone, Chairperson of the Local Federal Coordinating Committee that oversees the CFCNCA. “To keep up the momentum, we are asking federal employees and retirees to think about the causes that are most important to them and make a pledge this holiday season.”

Through the campaign, donors can support nearly 8,000 participating charities across a spectrum of worthy causes including education, medical research, homelessness, disaster relief, veterans, and many others. Monetary donations can be made as one-time or recurring gifts through credit cards or via payroll deduction; federal employees also have the option to pledge volunteer hours to participating charities.

The federal community has a long history and tradition of giving through the campaign. In the last 10 years, approximately half a billion dollars has been raised through the CFCNCA, positively impacting the lives of people here at home and around the world. Below are examples of how campaign contributions can have a lasting impact:

  • $10 feeds a child in a refugee camp for three weeks.
  • $50 supports cancer research and evaluation for new drugs.
  • $100 pays for a year of after-school enrichment for a middle schooler in a metropolitan area.
  • $300 pays for a service member to attend a career opportunity day, helping them reintegrate into the private sector.

Federal employees and retirees in the National Capital Area can make their pledges online by visiting cfcnca.org. The campaign deadline is Jan. 11, 2019. Federal employees and retirees located outside the CFCNCA can search for their local campaign at cfcgiving.opm.gov.
