OPM Kicks Off 2019 Combined Federal Campaign
Peace Corps Director Olsen to serve as Honorary Chairperson of the 2019 campaign
WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announces the kickoff of the 2019 Combined Federal Campaign(CFC) with Director of the Peace Corps Josephine Olsen, Ph.D., serving as the 2019 national Honorary Chairperson. This will be Director Olsen’s second time as the Honorary Chairperson of the CFC.
“CFC has raised billions of dollars for eligible charities over its long and proud history. Every year the federal workforce, military, and retirees show off their tremendous hearts for the causes that they believe in,” said Acting Director Margret Weichert. “I know that this year will be no different and I am grateful to have Director Olsen back to have another amazing and successful campaign.”
The 2019 campaign officially kicks off on September 9, 2019, and will run through January 12, 2020. In addition to pledging money, Federal employees can pledge volunteer service hours to participating nonprofit organizations.
“I am honored to once again serve as the Honorary Chairperson for the upcoming CFC,” Director Olsen said. “Federal employees have a tradition of contributing to their communities in many different ways, and as public servants we are bonded together by a shared sense of volunteerism, dedication and hard work. I am very much looking forward to another successful CFC season.”
Dr. Olsen, the 20th Director of the Peace Corps, began her career as a Peace Corps Volunteer, serving in Tunisia from 1966-1968. She has since served the agency in multiple leadership positions—as Acting Director in 2009; Deputy Director from 2002-2009; Chief of Staff from 1989-1992; Regional Director, North Africa, Near East, Asia, Pacific from 1981- 1984; and Country Director in Togo from 1979-1981.
The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is a 58-year Federal workplace giving tradition that has raised more than $8.3 billion for charitable organizations. The funds raised each fall through the campaign help neighbors in need around the corner, across the nation and throughout the world. Through the contributions of civilian and military Federal employees, the campaign continues to make a difference by generating more than $93 million in 2018 for the thousands of participating local, national, and international charities.
