Federal Employees Donate $47.4 Million through 2016 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area
CFCNCA Surpasses Goal and Reverses Downward Trend in Giving
WASHINGTON, March 3, 2017 – The Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA), the annual workplace giving opportunity for Federal employees in the Washington Metropolitan Area, today announced its 2016 campaign results. Federal employees contributed more than $47.4 million to thousands of participating local, national and international charities—almost a million dollars more than last year’s campaign total. This result reverses the downward trend in campaign revenues in recent years for the CFCNCA. The total amount generated was announced during a celebratory finale event today in Washington, D.C.
“This year’s success is a testament to the generosity of Federal employees in the National Capital Area,” said Vince Micone, Chairperson of the Local Federal Coordinating Committee that oversees the campaign. “I truly appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in the campaign. These women and men have gone beyond their commitment as public servants by giving to the thousands of charities that work to improve the quality of life for all. I’m looking forward to building upon this year’s momentum for another successful campaign in 2017.”
The top five departments or agencies donating to the 2016 campaign were:
- Department of Defense employees gave approximately $9.4 million.
- Department of Health and Human Services employees gave approximately $5.3 million.
- Department of Commerce employees gave approximately $3.6 million.
- Department of Homeland Security employees gave approximately $2.9 million.
- Central Intelligence Agency employees gave approximately $2.2 million.
This year’s campaign goal was $47 million. The finale event took place today at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., and was attended by Federal employees who served as leaders throughout the campaign. Government departments and agencies that implemented innovative and effective techniques to raise funds were recognized for their work and awarded at various levels.
This year’s CFCNCA theme was Show Some Love and Federal employees were encouraged to highlight and give to the causes that were most important to them. The campaign kicked off on Sept. 1, 2016, and the active solicitation period ended on Dec. 31, 2016.
